Brief: Design a second life for
the iconic London Black cab

Brief: Design a second life for the iconic London
Black cab

Old models were being replaced by electric counterparts with efforts to make London greener.

The driving force behind the brief was to save the iconic old models that are so integral to London's identity. I conceptualised numerous ideas centred around repurposing the London black cab, landing on a sensory experience for disadvantaged children.

This concept not only addressed the brief's environmental and nostalgic goals but also tackled social issues in London, achieving a dual solution for positive change. By integrating these objectives, I developed a solution that preserved a piece of London’s heritage while providing meaningful benefits to the community.

Building on research aimed at repurposing iconic London black cabs, I conceptualized "Cabi," a transformative sensory experience designed to provide vital, immersive experiences for children who might otherwise miss out. Cabi reinvents the old taxi cab bodies by outfitting them with technology that allows children to explore different parts of the world at the press of a button.

Each Cabi is equipped with scent sprays, a moving chair, screens, speakers, and tactile components, engaging all senses to create a fully immersive educational journey. These cabs, each offering unique experiences, would be placed in playgrounds, schools, and children's hospices, bringing the world to children and enriching their lives in meaningful ways.
